Shop News
After the hurly burly of the Hay Festival, it is now a bit quieter at Rose's Books and a time to catch our breath! Recent additions include a nice collection of books by Frank Richards, especially facsimile Magnet volumes.
Across at Stella Books, we have finished cataloguing the large Biggles collection, and are currently working through sets of transport, history, military and topography.
Outdoors, the vegetation is making a spirited attempt to encroach on the back of the shop but is a magnet for birds, bees and butterflies!
Let's talk about the weather! What a jolly British thing to do! We moan in the Winter when it is too cold, we moan in the Summer when it is too hot... is there no pleasing us? Nope! We are British!
Is it my imagination or are the Winters in Britain (specifically the South Wales area) becoming milder? I have a tortoise who hibernates every year in a double insulated box in the garage. His name is Zebedee...

A Sample of New Stock
My turn to write this article for our newsletter was fast approaching and the usual mild panic was setting in as I tried to decide which book to choose. Then we acquired a collection of folk and fairy tales and this book was amongst them.
Written by Edith Brill it grew out of stories her Polish father used to tell her. It is beautifully illustrated by Jan Pienkowski (originally from Poland) using silhouettes and some colour.
The story centres around Babka, an old woman who lived alone in the forest where she made brooms. Her little house was some distance from the village...
