50 years ago on 20th July 1969 the first men stepped onto the moon. The book I have chosen was published in 1954 – seven years before Yuri Gagarin, a Russian cosmonaut, became the first man to go into space and orbit the earth and fifteen years before the first moon landing. It is written by Arthur C. Clarke who was a science writer and a visionary when it came to space travel. In 1954 space science was new and still very much in the realms of fiction and fantasy. Jules Verne and H G Wells notably wrote adventure stories about travelling to the Moon and, although they were great fun, they offered no real insight into how this could be achieved. |

Colour pictures throughout. Splits to both sides of spine. Some chipping to cover edges, with heavy wear. Scuffing; a bit of surface paper damage. Surface paper damage to belongs to box, where name has been erased. Foxing to endpapers, pastedowns and outer page edges. A few hinges are pulled. Price: £250.00 | 1st 1943 In this edition of "The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner", Peake translates a particular poetic spirit into pictorial art. Full-page b/w illustrations. Blue cloth, gilt titles to spine. 40 pages. Small stain to bottom corner of front cover. Foxing to endpapers and outer page edges. A few pages have untrimmed edges. Wrapper is very browned to spine; foxed with edge-creasing and chipping; a little loss. Price: £125.00 | 1st thus 2004 This facsimile has been reproduced from the manuscript MS Harley 2278 in the British Library through digital photography by Laurence Pordes and has been printed by Cambridge University Press on Furioso paper from the Biberist mill in Switzerland supplied by John Purcell Paper.This edition of 1010 copies, of which 1000 are for sale, has been bound for members of The Folio Society.
