Welcome to the December 2022 newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed of new information, articles and books available on our website.
Across the UK, the recent cold-snap has eased off. Whilst the increased temperature is appreciated, we'll miss the beautiful frosty mornings (see our photo of the month below).
The seasonal rush is starting to wind down - only a few days left for last minute presents (although you might need to come and collect them in person if you want them for Xmas!). As a reminder, we are closing to the public for 3 months from January 1st for some building work. We'll try and include some photos in the next couple of newsletters to keep you all abreast of progress.
The more eagle-eyed of you may have noticed that our webcam died a few weeks back. We are pleased to say that it's up and running again! As we write this, it's pointing down the river toward the abbey (camouflaged against the winter trees). From the camera you can clearly see the Wireworks Bridge which is currently covered in white protective sheeting as the restoration work on the bridge moves forward.
As always, we have an article of the month and a featured book. Chris's article on Portugal might give you some ideas for next year's summer holiday; whilst Theresa takes a look at a British institution - Blue Peter! We hope you all enjoy the newsletter articles and have a relaxing festive season!
My turn to write the monthly article for our website but the eternal question – what to write about? I am staying at my cottage in Portugal at the moment so thought I would recount some of the more interesting aspects of living here.
The first lesson my husband and I learned on arriving here was – be patient! Nothing and no-one moves in a hurry here, unlike in the UK where everyone seems to be rushing around all the time. In some ways it is refreshing, in other ways it is immensely frustrating. My husband, Cliff, found this the most difficult thing to get used to but eventually was forced to relax and go with the flow.
