Welcome to the January 2023 newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed of new information, articles, and books available on our website.
We hope you have all had a relaxing and refreshing festive season! January is always a quiet month for us after the Christmas rush. We've started preparing for the imminent building work by clearing all the books and bookcases from the main downstairs room of the shop. Work is due to commence during the first week of February. As we mentioned in our last newsletter, this has meant that we're closed to the public until the end of March.
Sadly, we're not immune from Covid-19 and we've had a few members of staff off over the last few weeks. Usually it's the phones that suffer when we're short-staffed, so please bear with us. If your call is not answered immediately, please leave a message on the answering machine. Hopefully with the warmer weather there will be a few less germs around!
The beautiful book illustrations of Michael Foreman are much loved. Sonia has put together an interesting mini biography of Foreman in this month's article. Jo provides some fascinating background to the man and the series and includes some interesting local photos. Enjoy!
Michael Foreman is an award-winning illustrator of over 300 titles for both adults and children. He was born in Suffolk in 1938 and grew up near Lowestoft, in Pakefield, where his mother kept the village shop.
As a child, he did not have any books in the family home. This gave him the advantage of being able to come up with completely new look illustrations...
