Welcome to the August 2023 newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed of new information, articles and books available on our website.
As always, we hope this newsletter finds you and your family well. Our main news this month is our summer sale! Currently everything on our website is 15% off so hopefully you can find a bargain before the sale ends.
*** Summer Sale: 15% off everything! ***
If you're thinking of visiting the shop in the autumn, it's worth noting that the Wye Bridge in Monmouth will be closed for resurfacing for up to five weeks. Currently this is scheduled to start on October 16th. So, if you're visiting from the north, you'd need to come down the M5 rather than using the M50 through to Monmouth.
Both our articles this month feature the great outdoors. Chris heads underwater to explain her love of all water life, whereas Alison takes you on a local stroll through Monmouthshire following in the footsteps of Hando. Enjoy!
Water Life contributed by Chris

I’ve always had a fascination for water and the life contained in and around it. When travelling I try to look for a place to stay near a river as you can guarantee there will be something interesting to look at.

A Sample of New Stock
I’m new to Fred J. Hando’s books, but I instantly loved his interesting prose and writing style. Fred J. Hando (23rd March 1888- 17th February 1970) was from Newport, Wales, and a head teacher, artist and writer on the Monmouthshire and Gwent area. The main aim of his numerous books and newspaper articles was to “persuade readers to see the little places of a shy county.”
A prolific writer of the local area, I would now follow him anywhere given a chance, even if just around the corner, because he would make it interesting, weaving a story from the history of the area that would make me see the view in a completely different way.
