Welcome to the February 2025 newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed of new information, articles and books available on our website.
After what feels like a long, cold, wet winter, little glimmers of spring are appearing here in the Wye Valley. As we write this, the sun is shining, the snow-drops are out and even the odd daffodil is emerging from hibernation!
Our article this month takes a fascinating look at Tintern Abbey - or should I say, both Tintern Abbeys! Maybe this will tempt you out of hibernation yourself to come and visit us! If you do plan on visiting, then this month's featured book might be just what you need: The Motorist's and Aviators Yearbook! Although, as it's from 1910, a few rules of the road (and air) may have changed. But it's still a very interesting glimpse at a bygone age of motoring.
Finally, our photo this month is of Chepstow Castle. Founded soon after the Norman invasion around 1067, it has gone through many changes over the centuries. Today, most of the castle is still standing and it's well worth a visit - as is the town of Chepstow. Enjoy!
A Tale of Two Abbeys
We all know Tintern Abbey is in the Wye Valley and is the only one. Well, apparently not.
A random question from one of our customers got me doing a bit of research and I was surprised to find out that there is another Tintern Abbey. I thought I would do a bit more digging and find out about the monks and how they lived along with the history of the abbeys.

The early 1900s were a very exciting time for Motoring and Motor Sports, in 1901 the first Grand Prix was held in France, although the first racing track was built at Brooklands in Surrey in 1907. In 1900 there were approximately 700 to 800 cars on the UK roads but by 1920 there were 187,000. One of the first all British made cars was from The Wolseley Tool and Motor Company.
