Welcome to the March 2025 newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed of new information, articles and books available on our website.
Spring is finally underway in the Wye Valley and we’ve had a few days of unusually warm weather in the last week or so. Our photo this month is of some snowdrops spotted just up the valley near Redbrook. Whilst these are past their best now, the daffodils are in full glory along with the early crocus.
It’s been nice to see shop visitor numbers pick up a little as the better weather gets more of us out and about. We miss seeing friendly faces in the shop during the winter months! However, the village is still pretty quiet; so come and pay us a visit before the crowds arrive and while the weather is clear and dry.
In our article this month, Chris takes a look at the history of the River Wye. Although the river is now known for its natural beauty and serenity, in the past it was a hive of industry and busy with traffic. Meanwhile, in our featured book article, Steve takes a look at a few of the books we have in stock that deal with the legendary De Haviland Mosquito aircraft of World War II.
Speaking of military icons, we are currently processing a large collection of military books (with a focus on aviation and naval). The collection is in amazing condition having been kept in plastic bags and seemingly never read!
Anyhow, we hope you enjoy the newsletter!
With Stella & Rose’s Bookshop sitting on the banks of the River Wye it’s natural that it holds a fascination for us. With the river being tidal from its junction with the River Severn, for about 15 miles to Bigsweir the next village upriver from Tintern, the vista is constantly changing.
The valley of the River Wye has some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the UK.

A Sample of Our Current Stock
Aircraft have always fascinated me. When I was younger, one of my hobbies was radio-controlled cars. I always wanted to progress onto aircraft – but sadly never had the funds!
Over the last few years, I’ve played around with building my own drones (with limited success) and even building a radio-controlled hovercraft, but I’ve never lost my interest in aircraft. One of these days, I might just build a model aircraft and, if I did, it would probably be one of my all-time favourite aircraft – the De Havilland Mosquito.
