Welcome to the May 2025 newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed of new information, articles and books available on our website.
We've been enjoying some lovely spring weather here in the Wye Valley. As we write this, the sun is shining and the view out the office window is glorious! The bluebells in the woods are in the full bloom. I know we featured them in our photo in our last newsletter - but they are so beautiful we feel compelled to have another photo of them this month!
Nothing much to report in the shop. We added some nice Secret Seven (Enid Blyton) books recently; and we're still working our way through the maritime and aviation collection we purchased a few months back.
Our article this month doesn't get much bigger - after reading the 2024 Booker Prize winner, Theresa has been inspired to write about space! Our featured book is a beautifully illustrated children's book by Collette O'Hare - enjoy!

I have recently read the book ‘Orbital’ by Samantha Harvey, which is beautifully written and well deserving of winning the Booker Prize 2024. The story takes place over 24 hours and tells the story of six astronauts/cosmonauts on board the International Space Station as it orbits the Earth. There are only sixteen chapters in the book, which cover the sixteen 90-minute orbits of the earth which equals sixteen sunrises and sunsets! I am now hooked on watching the International Space Station orbit the Earth, it is quite mesmeric and awe inspiring – thank you NASA and YouTube. Read more... |

I was wondering which book I should feature this month and, when browsing the shelves of the shop, this one in the Children's section jumped out at me. I am not sure why. Perhaps it was the intriguing title, perhaps it was because I am a cat lover or, perhaps it was Beryl Cook’s wonderfully bold illustrations? Did you know that if you are kind to a six-toed cat for seven years and a day it will grant your fondest wish? I didn’t!
