This story of river transport in Burma describes the historical background to the formation in 1852 of the Irrawaddy Flotilla: how four paddle steamers sent by the Bengal Marine to Burma for the prosecution of the second Burmese War were taken over by private enterprise in 1865 and became the foundation of the greatest river fleet the world has ever known. Blue boards, silver title to spine. B/w photos and illustrations.
Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly rubbed at corners with a couple of small closed tears, spine is lightly faded.
