  • Margaret began as a very little mouse, but you know what mice are, always scampering about looking for trouble and wanting things that are just out of reach. Well Margaret was just like that. She wanted to be as big as an elephant so a fairy did a little magic and made her enormous. And that was the beginning of all sorts of bother for Margaret, because it didn't turn out to be anything like such fun as she expected. She found out what it was like to be tired and hungry and very miserable. She was caught and put in a cage in a circus, and all the people came to stare at her. Poor Margaret! Then just when everything seemed too sad to be endured, the magic was undone - and it came right again in a proper little way.
