They were mass-produced for popular consumption in the Edo period (1615-1868), one of the most culturally vibrant in Japanese history. Text in English, German, Dutch, Spanish & Italian. Very large format. Black cloth boards, gilt title to spine. Colour illustrations throughout.
Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly scuffed and rubbed at edges.
