Almost very good condition. Cream pictorial cloth. The first book in the "Adventure" series. 326 pages. B/w illustrations.

Spine and corners bumped and rubbed. Small bump to top of front board. Covers a little grubby. Small piece of blue sticky paper to front pastedown with BL4 written on it. Inscription in ink to front endpaper. Small splits in paper covering front joint. Top of text block a little grubby. A little foxing to some page margins but contents generally clean. Couple of hinges cracked.

  • Four children in an old half-ruined house set on a wild cliff by the sea, a strange island, called the Isle of Gloom, in the distance - and a ship to sail out to the island to see what is going on there. Secret passages, old forgotten copper-mines on the island, men hidden there doing strange things. a path under the sea-bed itself - there are no end to the adventures that the four children have, Then there is Kiki, the parrot, whose ridiculous chatter delights the children and who shares in their amazing adventures.
