Spine and corners are bumped. Cloth on top and bottom of spine is worn. Covers are grubby. Name in child's writing on front pastedown. Inscription in ink, which has a blue line through it on front pastedown. Endpapers are browned. Frontis has been neatly coloured in. A few margin marks otherwise contents are generally clean.

There six other Suspects but they all have unshakeable alibis. Old Clear-Orf, Mr. Goon the village policeman, thinks he knows who did it - but the children think differently, and set to work to solve the extraordinary mystery.
