  • If Billy Bunter had not missed tea because Mr. Quelch caught him eating in class and gave him detention, hunger would not have driven him to remove the confiscated cake from the Remove-master's study. Unfortunately other people had business in Quelch's study and one of them had the temerity to upend that redoubtable figure. As usual suspicion fell on Bunter and all would have been well, as Quelch was too just to punish where any doubt remained but the notoriety had gone to Bunter' s head and he began to boast of his courage as an up-ender of beaks. Condemned to a flogging, Bunter disappears and Harry Wharton & Co. join him in an effort to find the true culprit.
