SENT FORTH A DOVE: DISCOVERY OF THE DUYFKEN
Published by University Of Western Australia Press. 1st. 1999
Very good condition in a nearly fine dustwrapper. In 1606 the little Dutch East India Company Ship, Duyfken, came upon the coast of Cape York Peninsula. Its skipper, Willem Jansz went to his grave without knowing that his crew were the first Europeans to land on the shores of the sixth continent. His chart lay undiscovered in the archives for many years. Nearly 400 years later, a small group of people dedicated themselves to the daunting task of bringing the Dufyken story back to life including building a replica ship. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos & illustrations and a few colour photos. This is a presentation copy of 1000 numbered and signed by the author.
This is copy 340 of 1000 SIGNED by the author. Text block browned, a few foxspots to endpaper. Blue pictorial dustwrapper is lightly scuffed. Strong tobacco smell present.
