Very good condition. Translated into English, and enlarged with many additions throughout the whole work. To which are added three considerable discourses, I. Of the Art of Fowling... II. Of the ordering of Singing Birds. III. Of Falconry. This is the First Edition in English, greatly enlarged from the Latin first edition of 1676 by the addition of Ray's three discourses. The first systematic classification of the birds of the world. Large format. Rebound with three quarter modern calf binding, raised bands to spine with red title blocks & gilt title, brown paper boards. 80 b/w engraved plates.
Light fading to top of calf spine and top rear corner. Corners lightly rubbed. New endpapers. Title page chipped at vertical edge with an amateur repair to lower corner. Plate 8 & 14 have a large closed tear (no loss). All plates are present. Some pages have a few nicks, closed tears and/or chips at edges. Page edge browning. A few marks related to aging. A very nice copy of a scarce item.
