Slightly better than very good condition in a almost very good dustwrapper. The first Earl of Shaftesbury (1621-83), Dryden's "false Achitophel", was the most striking politician of his day. Described by one authority as "the Jekyll and Hyde of English politics", he was the patron alike of John Locke and Titus Oates. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. xii and 767 pages including index.
Text block slightly grubby. Light browning to pastedowns. Orange dustwrapper edge-worn and creased with a small chip to lower edge of rear panel, slightly faded to spine and a little grubby.
