Contents

  • Set in the lonely, exciting moorland country of the North Riding. Harriet Sparrow's grandfather had exchanged his antique shop in London for one in Spaunton near Whitby, and has invited the Mortons and their friends to keep Harriet company.
  • Soon after he takes over the shop Mr. Sparrow is badgered by a mystery man who wants to the buy the property from him at a most advantageous rate and will not take no for an answer. When Mr. Sparrow refuses to sell the man threatens him. Obviously there is something fishy behind his offer and the Lone Piners quickly discover that he is interested in a disused mine shaft on Mr. Sparrow's property: what is more they recognise in him and his accomplice two villains with whom they have already crossed swords.
