- The Lone Piners (David Morton, Dickie, Mary and Harriet Sparrow) journey from London to Shropshire where they join Petronella (Peter) Sterling, Tom ingles and Jenny Harman. All is not well at Witchend. Peter's father is unusually troubles over a stranger's visit; a helicoptor is sen over the deserted and eerie Beacon Cottage; and James, their reporter friend from the Clarion arrives on a special investigation. Are these incidents connected ....? Why suddenly are there so many strangers around....?
