Dustwrapper is edge worn, with a couple of tears and small pieces of loss. Small hole torn near centre of spine, silver library binding label stuck below. 2.5" tear to base of front fold, small hole to rear fold. Also slightly grubby with label residue on front panel.

Some loss to lower spine corner of front panel of wrapper (where it was nibbled). Dustwrapper is lightly browned, some lifting of laminate at lower edge of front panel.

Available in two separate trade editions, this is the green cloth binding with gilt titles and decorations. Green/white pictorial endpapers. 223 pages. 8 x 6". Introduction by G.K. Chesterton. New translation by Jones. Spine bumped, worn and slightly darkened. Wear to corners and bump to lower front corner. Front joint cracked. plus a couple of hinges cracked but binding still tight. Grubby fingermarks, mainly to lower margins and mostly in first half of book. A few fox spots to contents. Rear endpapers grubby with some foxing. All plates present.

The De Luxe limited edition of 250 copies. Cream pictorial cloth with gilt titles. Large format. 12 wonderful tipped-in colour plates mounted on brown paper with captioned tissue-guards plus b/w text illustrations. 209 numbered pages, top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Burgundy silk page marker. SIGNED by the publishers, this is copy no. 148. Spine and corners very slightly bumped. Foxing to endpapers and textblock. Dustwrapper is edge worn with loss to top and tail of spine and tears which have been tape repaired on verso the wrapper is also lightly browned and foxed. An exceptionally nice copy of this scarce edition made even more desirable by the original dustwrapper being present. This copy would make a wonderful gift.

A few other small marks to covers. Joints cracked, showing webbing. Name in ink to half-title page. Light foxing to endpapers, prelims and a few fox spots throughout. A few marks to contents but generally clean. All plates present.
