Nearly fine condition in a nearly fine dustwrapper. In 1768 Joseph Wright left his native city of Derby and moved to Liverpool in search of recognition and success. He painted portraits of the prosperous merchants and their families, and he continued to develop the brilliantly illuminated subject paintings on which is reputation chiefly rests today. Published to accompany the exhibition of the same name in 2008. Large format. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. Colour & b/w illustrations.
