Blue cloth covers with large pictorial onlay and black titles. Colour frontis plus b/w illustrations. 218 pages. Spine is browned and worn. Bumping to corners. Tip of one corner of onlay has been torn off. Scuffing and marks to rear cover. Joints are cracked. Inscription in ink to front pastedown. Page 13 has edge-tears/chipping with loss all the way down the long (outer page) edge. Foxing throughout. Some b/w illustrations have been coloured in. Some page creasing and a few small nicks to page margins. A reading copy.

Later dustwapper is faded to spine, with 0.5" loss to base; some chipping to top; also small edge loss to top edge of rear panel. Wrapper also has some foxing and a few marks.
