A & C Black Colour Book 20 Shilling Series. Cerulean blue cloth with attractive sailing ship, crab and sun vignettes. Gilt titles to spine and front cover. 74 tissue-guarded colour plates. Top edge gilt. Index and booklist to rear that lists books later than 1905. Bumping and wear to spine and corners. Spine and edges are browned; a few nicks to cloth to top and tail of spine. Inscription in ink to front pastedown. Joints are a bit cracked. Frontis is MISSING! Tape marks to tissue-guard of plate opposite page 104. Some light foxing and browning. Assumed reprint from books listed in booklist to rear.

Base of spine is damaged; chipped with some fraying and a little loss of cloth. Scuffing to covers. Joints are pulled. Some light foxing. A little browning to plates.

Foxing to endpapers, outer page edges and margins. Tear to fold-out page. A working copy ONLY!

A & C Black 20 Shilling Series. 9 x 6.5 ins. Red cloth with black and gold decorations to front board. 50 colour and 50 black and white plates. Joints are broken! 1" split to cloth at base of spine; some chipping and nicks with fraying to cloth on spine and corners. Heavy bump to bottom corner of rear cover. Remains of bookplate to front pastedown. Front endpaper is nearly detached, browned and torn. Page edges are browned. All plates present.

Some wear to cover corners. Inscriptions in ink to front endpaper. A little foxing; some margin marks. A couple of tissue guards have become loose, but still inserted. Wrapper is very creased and damaged; has been repaired to verso with brown tape; still some pieces of loss.
