Very good condition in a very good dustwrapper.
Large format. B/w photos. In terms of men and machines, the United States Eighth Air Force was the largest air striking force ever committed to battle. The complexities of putting two thousand bombers and fighters in a day over Hitler's Reich were extraordinary and might involve, directly and indirectly, one hundred and fifty thousand men and women. The daily logistical requirements could be enormous: some three million gallons of fuel, four thousand tons of bombs and four and a half million rounds of ammunition, to give just the major items. And such efforts were often repeated for several days in succession. This book tells how and with what it was done. ISBN: 0710603258. Second impression. Top & tail of spine lightly shelf-worn, board corners lightly rubbed. Text block lightly browned. Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-creased, ligthly scuffed, minor closed tear to lower front spine edge, rear panel lightly scuffed.

SKUA! THE ROYAL NAVY'S DIVE-BOMBER
Written by Peter C. Smith.
Stock no. 1828446
Published by Pen & Sword Aviation.
1st
2006.
Nearly fine condition in a slightly better than very good dustwrapper.
The Blackbrn Skua was the first monoplane to be designed and built for the Royal Navy in the late 1930s. As a result of continuous debate, it became a compromise between the Navy's desire for a carrier-based dive-bomber and the Air Ministry's preference for a hybrid able to perform in a limited fighter role, which proved incompatible in practice. As a dive-bomber, the Royal Navy put the design to good use from the outset of WWII. This book relates how the final design was created, how the dive-bombing technique was developed and perfected by naval pilots and traces the wartime operational career of the type with many first-hand accounts. Black cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos. ISBN: 1844154556. Rear panel of dustwrapper lightly scuffed, light cup ring mark to front panel.
