This biography drops him in 1940, at the age of 24, on his first ship and newest adventure. Sea-Running! takes up the story in the same sentence as it left off, and pursues it in the same exhilarating fashion. A string of memorable merchant ships showed Maxie the wartime world, and he shared the twilit world of the boiler-rooms with men who were many times larger than life.
