PACKMEN, CARRIERS AND PACKHORSE ROADS: TRADE AND COMMUNICATIONS IN NORTH DERBYSHIRE AND SOUTH YORKSHIRE
by David Hey
Published by Leicester University Press. 1st. 1980
Nearly fine condition in a slightly better than very good dustwrapper. A network of routes travelled by packmen, carriers and packhorse teams carried much of Britain's trade before the era of the turnpike road. In many parts of the country, a wealth of visual evidence survives - holloways, causeys, guide stoops and packhorse bridges. This book studies the system of routes, taking as an example the wild and difficult terrain of Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. Brown cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos and maps.
Board corners lightly bumped. Minor mark to lower edge of text block. Contents otherwise fine. White pictorial dustwrapper is lightly creased at top of spine and lightly scuffed.
