Illustrated by Harry Rountree; Rene Bull
Published by Raithby, Lawrence & Co. Limited. Circa. 1942
Very good condition in a almost very good dustwrapper. Very large format (12.5 x 10"). Beige cloth with brown and red title and colour illustration to front. With twelve tissue-guarded colour plates by Rountree and eighty-four pen and ink text illustrations by Bull. A wonderful edition of this classic story.
Spine and corners bumped. A dozen or so pinholes to rear cover (a couple of which penetrate the last few pages). Inscription in ink to front endpaper (dated 1942). Light foxing to endpapers. Contents clean. Green wrapper (with pictorial onlay to front) is edge creased with tears at corners which are repaired with magic tape on verso, creasing to top edge of rear panel and the same pinholes affecting the rear cover. Very slight loss at corners. A nice copy of this attractive but scarce edition.
