Having fought throughout the Battle of Britain, Ulrich Steinhilper was shot down as he flew his Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 on a bomber escort duty. So it was in late October 1940 Ulrich was to begin a phase of his life which would stretch him to the limit of physical endurance and to the edge of insanity. He was to become a prisoner of war, but he was not a man to embrace something as alien as imprisonment lightly and so he was to dedicate himself to the idea of escape...
