Facsimile of the 1924 edition. A book in which Rackham broke new ground in the illustration of Irish literature. Stephens had attempted to create an Irish equivalent of The Arabian Nights in his own poetic retelling of the stories which existed in the oral tradition. 16 in full colour plates. Dusky pink cloth boards, gilt title to spine. 318 pages. Top edge maroon. ISBN: 0717109526. Lower edges of boards rubbed. Text block browned and a little grubby. Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is scuffed, remains of old price label to rear panel.

This book reproduces in size and in the fold-out format of the original copy of Utamaro's 'Momo-chidori kyoka awase' in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. To accomodate the left-to-right tradition of the Western reader, the sequence of illustrations has been reversed, however the Japanese verses should be read from right to left. Green cloth boards, white title label to front board. Boards have no spine as book opens concertina style. Colour illustrations in facsimile. B/w illustrations to rear. ISBN: 0870992805. A lovely copy, contained in publisher's slipcase which is lightly faded to spine and lightly knocked at top & tail, foxing to top edge.
