Nearly fine condition in a very good dustwrapper.
A witty and illuminating book in whcih the author and Parrish expert argues persuasively that Parrish's better-known illustration career was a thirty-five-year detour on his path to achieving his true goal, a dedication to reproducing nature in all its splendor. 50-plus colour plates show how he masterfully achieved that goal, while the text provides a fascinating insight into the stories behind these glorious images. Also featured are lovely photos of Parrish's estate. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. ISBN: 0898155878. A lovely copy. Blue pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-creased and is a little scuffed to rear panel.

Joints are partially cracked. Foxing to endpapers, outer page edges, some page margins and couple of plates.

Very good condition.
Green/brown cloth with gilt title to spine. Picture and title to front cover. 8 x 6". 18 tissue-guarded b/w plates. Page edges are uncut. Gilt to spine is faded. Bumping along a couple of cover edges. Small bookplate and inscriptions to front pastedown. Some foxing and page browning. All plates present. A few small tears and creases to tissue-guards and a few page margins.

Maxfield Parrish (July 25, 1870 – March 30, 1966) was an American painter and illustrator active in the first half of the 20th century. He is known for his distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery. Parrish entered into an artistic career that lasted for more than half a century, and which helped shape the Golden Age of illustration and American visual arts.
