Red cloth, gilt title to spine. Colour plates. Using 10 works of art, 9 in colour Pomeroy explores the border-lines between disciplines to shed new light on the portraits of Elizabeth I. She combines ideas from cultural anthropology, semiotics, literary theory, social history and the psychology of perception to create a web of meanings and harmonies, centering the paintings of the Queen in a new, complex environment.
