Very good condition in a good dustwrapper.
Green cloth with black title to spine. 4 b/w plates, including frontis. It was towards the middle of the afternoon that two aeroplanes flying wing-tip to wing-tip, headed eastwards towards the bleak moors on which Bleakmoor Prison was situated. The two pilots had planned an amazing escape of one of the prisoners... Light bumping to spine and corners. Some browning to top and tail of spine and cover edges. Foxing to endpapers, outer page edges and some page margins. Page edge browning. Ink smudges to a couple of pages of prelims. Wrapper is price-cut with edge-tears and chips; loss to top of spine and a couple of corners; faded to spine. Wrapper also has some grubby marks.

Spine has a few inch split to one side, with some fraying to cloth; also spotted. Wear and scuffing to covers. Front joint is cracked. Erased doodle to front endpaper, which also has margin tear. Foxing and browning to outer page edges and margins. Plates are present. A reading copy. Printers code is 37.783.

Inscription in ink to front endpaper with address written in pencil below. Drawings in pencil to rear endpaper. Evidence of bookwork damage on several pages. Two plates are missing - 1 colour and 1 b/w. Foxing and grubby marks throughout including several pencil marks. A reading copy.
