Pictorial cloth spine shows boy hanging from title. Pictorial front cover shows two children fishing, they have caught a boot. 12 colour plates plus b/w illustrations. 278 pages. First story: The Magic Matchbox. Spine rubbed and bumped, illustration on spine faded. Edges rubbed and corners worn. Prize-plate to front endpaper. Occasional faint fingering and foxing to contents.

First story: The Magic Matchbox. Spine bumped, wear to picture on spine. Corners bumped and worn, heavy bump to lower front corner. Bump to top edge of rear cover. Covers slightly grubby and worn. Ink inscription to front endpaper and name to top edge. Tear alongside spine to top edge of page 87. Endpapers browned, foxing to text block. Light browning to about 6 pages, possibly something has been pressed between them, contents generally clean otherwise.
