Being the journal kept by Lord Macartney during his Embassy to the Emperor Ch'ien-lung 1793-1794. Introduced by Jonathan Spence. Edited by J.L. Cranmer-Byng. Cloth spine with gilt title. Green paper boards with white dragon and lion repeating pattern. Light blue endpapers are maps. Colour illustrations. xviii and 314 pages including index. A lovely copy contained in publisher's slipcase which is lightly scuffed.
