Red cloth boards, gilt title to spine. Colour frontis and b/w photos. Large folding map to rear of the Inland Waterways of England (showing their ownership prior to January 1, 1948). Top edge red. 221 pages including index. Boards clean and bright. Endpapers and text block browned. Front joint is cracked but binding is tight. Map at end is present. Pictorial dustwrapper is browned to verso, lightly rubbed at corners, a lovely example. Musty odour present.

The third and final volume of L.T.C. Rolt's autobiography. L.T.C. Rolt's fame rests on the fact that he was unique in producing works of literature from subject matter which has not before his time, been considered the stuff of literature - engineering, canals, railways, steam engines, agricultural machinery, and vintage cars. This volume was published posthumously and is a fitting tribute to the man who, through his appreciation of the 'aesthetics of technology', could be said to have given a literary shape to the Industrial Revolution.
