A scholarly history of British Native ponies starting from the Iron Age, when the cult of the celtic goddess Epona, patroness of horse-breeders was widely diffussed in north-west Europe and was spread still wider by the Roman Empire. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos & illustrations. ISBN: 0851314368. Pale foxing to boards. Text block browned. A few foxspots to contents, mainly to prelims. Pictorial dustwrapper has the remains of a label to front panel and is grubby to rear panel.
