A FRENCHMAN SEES THE ENGLISH IN THE 'FIFTIES
Published by Sidgwick & Jackson Ltd.. 1st. 1935
Very good condition in a almost very good dustwrapper. Translated from the French of Francis Wey by Valerie Pirie. M. Francis Wye paid a visit or two to England shortly after the Great Exhibition of 1851. In reading how our mid-Victorian forefathers lived, we have the further piquancy of seeing them through a Frenchman's eyes... Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w plates.
Title to spine faded. Front hinge pulled. Damp stain to gutter edge of prelims. All plates present. Text block browned. Small brown mark to top margin of some pages. Pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn and torn, slight loss at corners and spine, grubby and browned, large closed tear on front flap fold.
