A very thorough and readable telling of the 1798 United Irishmen movement and the uprising against British rule in Ireland. The author gives an almost day-to-day account of the heroic and tragic events that shook the British and the Protestant Ascendency in Ireland. Green cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w illustrations. 416 pages including index. ISBN: 0340106409. Small mark to top of front board, top & tail of spine lightly shelf-rubbed, else boards clean. Text block is grubby & dusty with a few foxspots. Gift inscription in ink to front endpaper. Contents clean. Price-cut pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn with a small chip to top of spine, very lightly faded to spine.
