THE FALMOUTH PACKETS 1689-1851

by Tony Pawlyn

Published by Truran. 1st. 2003

Slightly better than very good condition. First full length study of this unique maritime service to be published for over 100years. For 160 years Falmouth was the centre of international communications between Britain and her allies and colonies on the Atlantic run. At its peak over forty vessels were employed as mail-packets, working out of Falmouth ferrying official dispatches, mail, passengers and bullion. Built for speed and lightly armed these small vessels had not only to contend with the elements but hostile navies and privateers. Pictorial cardwraps. Colour & b/w photos/illustrations. 144 pages including index.

A very nice copy.
