COBBETT'S ENGLAND
by William Cobbett; John Derry
Illustrated by James Gillray
Published by Folio Society. 1st thus. 1968
Very good condition. William Cobbett (1763-1835) was an English pamphleteer, farmer and journalist. He believed that reforming Parliament and abolishing the rotten boroughs would help to end the poverty of farm labourers, and he attacked the borough-mongers, sinecurists and "tax-eaters" relentlessly. This is a selection from the writings of William Cobbett. Edited with an introduction by John Derry. Blue cloth spine, pink boards. B/w illustrations. 276 pages.
Spine is heavily sunned/faded and has a small white mark toward the lower edge. Boards are clean. Minor marks to text block. Contents clean. Contained in publisher's slipcase which is a little scuffed. Musty odour present.
