An unusual story in British colonial history in that much of Kenya was long regarded as a 'white man's country' and attracted a mixed bag of settlers, mainly hardworking farmers but a few playboys. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. xi and 316 pages including index. ISBN: 1850435715. Small date written in ink to front pastedown. Else contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly faded to spine, rubbed at corners, small dampstain to base of spine, publisher's price label to front flap.

Very good condition.
An attempt to give some description of the physical geography, botany, zoology, anthropology, languages and history of the territories under British protection in East Central Africa, between the Congo Free State and the Rift Valley and between the first degree of South latitude and the fifth degree of North latitude. Blue cloth boards with gilt titles. Colour plates, maps and numerous b/w illustrations. A very heavy set. Both volumes rubbed and scuffed to boards, top & tail of spines worn. Text block a little grubby. Name in ink to half-title pages. All colour plates & maps present. Some hinges lightly pulled. Rear joint of volume 2 is cracked exposing cloth beneath but is still quite firm.
