Red cloth with gilt title to spine. Oxford Historical Monographs Series. ISBN: 0198218338. Spine slightly bumped. Spine and corners lightly rubbed. Some foxing to textblock. Price-cut wrapper is edge rubbed, faded and slightly grubby to spine with a small mark to edge of rear panel.

Getty Museum Studies on Art series. Monograph. A masterpiece of Italian Mannerism, Pontormo's painting of the Halberdier is a poignant image of a heroic youth. But is this proud and beautiful youth the Florentine duke Cosimo I de' Medici, or is he Frencesco Guardi, unknown to history except for Vasari's mention that he was painted by Pontormo during the harrowing seige of Florence in 1529-302? The author examines the many problems surrounding this mysterious portrait, discovering new possibilities of meaning within the volatile politics of the period. Pictorial cardwraps. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-creased, slightly faded to spine, a little scuffed, a tiny closed tear (no loss) to top front edge repaired to verso with clear tape.
