Wonderfully observed, often humorous and extremely well written, this captivating account evokes much of the atmosphere of the run-down railway in post-war Britain. Large format. Traditional two-axle trams still ran in the 1970s and then became part of the local network of the celebrated Vicinal, extended in 2012. This wide-ranging book explores the colourful history of the two tramways since 1940, with insight into the political and economic problems which lay behind their decline and partial revival.
