A comprehensive guide. Green cloth boards, gilt title to spine. Over 350 colour plates in total. 868 pages. ISBN: 0713639601. Top & tail of spine and lower horizontal edges rubbed. Text block grubby. Name & date in ink to front endpaper (appears to have previously belonged to Brian Sawford, a well known local naturalist). Contents otherwise clean. White pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-creased and has a few minor chips, closed tears, and is a little grubby.

Vol II: 4 color plates of eggs, 51 color plates of birds, appendix and index. Colour plates have tissue-guards. Top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed. Ex-Lib with bookplate to front pastedown of both volumes and card pocket to rear pastedown. Not dated. A few marks and scuffs to boards, crinkling to cloth on rear board of volume II. Edges are lightly rubbed, corners are bumped. Endpapers & text block browned. Volume I: Egg plates are MISSING, plate 11 is detached but present. All plates otherwise present.
