The Library of Natural History Romance. Brown decorative cloth, gilt titles. B/w plates and illustrations. 414 pages including index. Top edge gilt. Shelf wear & rubbing to spine. Corners lightly worn. Contemporary name & date in ink to front pastedown. Front joint starting to crack. Text block browned with some foxing. Some hinges pulled but binding is tight. Some scattered foxing to contents. Some margin doodles in pencil (neat). All plates are present.

Glazed pictorial boards. ISBN: 9781873544648. Reprint. Top & tail of spine lightly bent (shelf wear). Corners of boards bumped. Contents fine. Pictorial dustwrapper is a little scuffed and a little grubby with a small mark left by a label that has been removed to rear panel.

Leather spines and corners. Maroon title blocks to spines, gilt titles. Marbled outer page edges and endpapers. 203 hand-coloured plates. Bookplates of 'The Wheelton hind Collection 1920' to front pastedown of each book. Rear join at rear of Volume 1 (on outside); leather has split, but still holding together well. Some scuffs and chips of leather spines and corners. Foxing to prelims of books; some margin marks; page browning. Hand-coloured illustrations are still nice and bright.

Second edition, revised and enlarged. 26 tissue-guarded hand-coloured plates depicting 668 species. Red cloth, gilt title to front cover, embossed decorative borders to covers. All edges gilt. Spine and corners bumped and worn with small tear in cloth at base of spine. Covers darkened at edges and on spine. Front hinge cracked. Inscription in ink on verso of front endpaper. All plates present. One tissue guard detached. Foxing to tissue guards. Plates clean except for a very few which have minor foxing at the edges. A bright copy.
