Third Edition. A series of sketches of its scenery, antiquities, geology, etc., drawn & described in pen and ink. 'Tourist Edition, Four Shillings Net' printed to top of front board. Green cloth boards. Gilt title to spine and black titlle to front with sketch. B/w illustrations. v and 168 pages plus publisher adverts to rear. Boards just slightly grubby and rubbecd at edges. Name and date in ink to front endpaper. Endpapers browned. Front joint just starting to crack. A few foxspots to contents. Hinges pulled. Binding tight.

Pink cardwraps. 19 plates at rear. Writing in blue pencil to front cover, covers are unevenly faded and marked/grubby. Backstrip worn and front cover just starting to split from contents because of this. A little unobtrusive annotation to contents in pencil. Text block browned. Plates have some foxing present.

Uneven browning/fading to covers. 1.5" loss to paper cover at base of spine; 1" loss to top. Bumping and wear, with some chipping to corners and cover edges. Foxing is heaviest to endpapers, prelims, outer page edges and last few pages. 2" closed tear to half-title page.

Two volumes, second series first published date is 1877. People of note from Lancashire including Samuel Crompton who invented the spinning-mule. Red cloth boards with black & gilt titles. Bevelled edges. B/w frontis to volume one. Volume one top of spine is fraying with a little loss of cloth. Inscriptions in ink to prelims. Joints splitting and therefore binding fragile but holding. A few damp stains to margins.

Second edition, revised and enlarged. 26 tissue-guarded hand-coloured plates depicting 668 species. Red cloth, gilt title to front cover, embossed decorative borders to covers. All edges gilt. Spine and corners bumped and worn with small tear in cloth at base of spine. Covers darkened at edges and on spine. Front hinge cracked. Inscription in ink on verso of front endpaper. All plates present. One tissue guard detached. Foxing to tissue guards. Plates clean except for a very few which have minor foxing at the edges. A bright copy.
