Rudolf Steiner's wood sculpture of the 'Representative of Humanity' - or the 'Christ Being' as he himself also referred to it - stands in a room specially provided for it in the present Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. This book is an intriguing survey of the sculpture's development, supported by a factually clear and artistically perceptive commentary as well as by numerous clearly documented utterance of Rudolf Steiner's on his own conception of the work and its particular style of execution. Introduced by Hagen Biesantz. Large format. Yellow cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos. 85 pages. ISBN: 0854403019. Light rubbing to base of spine, boards clean. Some pale foxing present, mainly to prelims. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-creased and lightly scuffed. Musty odour present.

The rarest of the Black's 20 Shilling Series. Assumed early edition/reprint in same year as 1st edition - as has 4 page booklist to rear. Spine is browned with a few chips and splits to top; some fraying to cloth. Front board bright and clean. Corners are bumped. Personal gift inscription in pencil to front endpaper. Joints are starting to crack a little. Some foxing present. Plate margins browned. All plates present.

Large, heavy format. Brown leather binding with gilt decoration, raised bands to spine. Marbled endpapers. Gilt page edges. With 418 illustrations engraved by A. Closs. 487 pages. Some scuffs to leather at corners and edges, and a chip to leather towards top right corner of front board, and smaller chip at bottom of rear board. Leather on rear board is stained. Front joint starting to carck from top. Binding firm. Pressed flowers and foliage taped to front endpaper, with inscriptions. Endpapers foxed, some scattered foxing throughout contents, mainly to page margins. Engravings are generally clean and bright. A handsome volume.
