This book embraces both anthropological analyses proper - of the Nuba economic system, of kinship organization, of religious beliefs and tribal morality - and the discussion of 'practical' topics such as the policy of Nuba-Arab assimilation, the prospects of native administration in so primitive and heterogeneous a society, and the evolution of a Nuba law adapted to modern conflicts. Red cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos. Top edge red. Light browning and scuffing to endpapers. Text block browned and dusty. Contents clean. Orange dustwrapper is browned, edge-creased, worn at top of spine, tiny hole to rear edge of spine.

Very good condition.
An attempt to give some description of the physical geography, botany, zoology, anthropology, languages and history of the territories under British protection in East Central Africa, between the Congo Free State and the Rift Valley and between the first degree of South latitude and the fifth degree of North latitude. Blue cloth boards with gilt titles. Colour plates, maps and numerous b/w illustrations. A very heavy set. Both volumes rubbed and scuffed to boards, top & tail of spines worn. Text block a little grubby. Name in ink to half-title pages. All colour plates & maps present. Some hinges lightly pulled. Rear joint of volume 2 is cracked exposing cloth beneath but is still quite firm.

De Luxe edition limited to 300 numbered copies and signed by the illustrator. White cloth, blue borders and orange tree design with gilt titles. 75 tissue-guarded plates. Top edge gilt. SIGNED by the artist (no dedication) and numbered 128 (of 300). Spine browned, boards marked and grubby. Top & tail of spine worn and fraying. Front hinge pulled with residue surface paper from front endpaper stuck to half-title page. Rear hinge pulled wide, free rear endpaper is stuck to rear pastedown (possibly a binding error). Some inner hinges pulled else the binding is tight. Some foxing present especially to tissue-guards but not the plates themselves. Small damp stain to margins and lower corner of last few pages and plates.

De Luxe Limited Edition of 500 numbered copies, signed by the author. Bevelled boards. Heavy duty cloth boards with gilt titles and colour pattern. Top edge gilt. 75 tissue-guarded colour plates. xiii and 239 numbered pages. SIGNED by the author (no dedication) and numbered 238 (of 500). Boards grubby and stained, rear edge of spine has a small patch of cloth fraying.Joints cracked, rear endpaper missing. Binding of first few pages weak and will possibly disintegrate further so that the pages are loose. Binding glue drying out and thus a few weak spots. A few foxspots throughout. All plates present and clean.
