Red cloth. Limited to 1000 copies. B/w illustrations. Valentine Morris was born in the island of Antigua in 1727 but lived for 30 years at the Piercefield, part of which is now Chepstow racecourse. SIGNED by author to front endpaper, dedicated to a previous owner. Foxing to spine. Foxing and browning to endpapers and outer page edges. Wrapper is edge-creased with a few small tears and chips; minimal loss.

Top edge gilt. Index and booklist to rear that lists books later than 1905. Bumping and wear to spine and corners. Spine and edges are browned; a few nicks to cloth to top and tail of spine. Inscription in ink to front pastedown. Joints are a bit cracked. Frontis is MISSING! Tape marks to tissue-guard of plate opposite page 104. Some light foxing and browning. Assumed reprint from books listed in booklist to rear.
