Claims against conscription, not only on grounds of conscience but also in cases of national interest, hardship and illness or infirmity, were heard by a country-wide network of Local and Appeal Tribunals. The records of the Warwick District Appeal Tribunal was one of the collections which escaped destruction after World War I. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. viii and 598 pages including index. The decade 1599-1609 was at first dominated by the Corporation's lively efforts to extend its authority at the expense of the lord of the manor. This was followed by a period of consolidation leading eventually to the grant of a second charter in 1610 consolidating rights acquired piecemeal over the previous seven or eight years. This volume contains the Corporation's minutes and accounts but supplemented, from 1602, by the records of the borough sessions. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. ix and 588 pages including index. ISBN: 9780852200940. A couple of pages have minor corner creases else the book appears unread. Dugdale Society Vol. 54. Edited by Jens Rohrkasten. The General Eyre was held by itinerant justices who had the right to hear all pleas arising in the county they were assigned to visit. They conducted an in-depth review of all judicial and administrative procedures in the county, correcting abuse of office by officials and ensuring that penalties were imposed on all those responsible for encroachments on royal rights. This volume contains an English translation of the sole surviving roll from the Warwickshire Eyre held between 5 June and 20 July 1262. ISBN: 9780852201077. Looks unread. ISBN: 0948459476. This is copy 94 of 1000. Minor foxing to top edge of text block, and small mark to title page & facing page of Book Studies. All three volumes appear a little grubby to cream cloth spines, Small knock to lower edge of boards of Introduction and Translation. Else a lovely set contained in publisher's slipcase which has minor fading and is a little scuffed, small 'dint' to one end.

Three-quarter leather binding with 5 raised bands to spine and green title label with gilt title. Brown cloth boards. Folding map of the county to front. B/w etchings. xiii and 800 pages including index. Top edge gilt. Rebound. Leather spine is lightly discoloured with minor spotting, top & tail lightly worn. Leather corners a little worn. New green endpapers, new fly leaves to front and rear. Faint ink stamp to front pastedown. Folding map present with a closed tear to gutter margin (not affecting the map itself) and paper repair below the tear, map is browned with age, margins creased at gutter edge. Small name in ink to top of title page. Foxing throughout. Some annotation present. Publisher adverts to the rear are missing (removed when rebound?).
